I used to have a crazy obsession with stars. Anything and everything stars. Recently that obsession, actually it’s more like inspiration, has shifted to birds and possibly clouds. Unfortunately I can’t plaster my room with all things birds like I did as a child with other obsessions because of the whole sharing a room with your husband thing. Anyway, as a child, I remember feeling like stars represented freedom. Freedom to dream. And as an adult, it’s the same thing with birds. In my own little world one of the things they remind me to keep doing is to dream. But not just the I’m going to sit here and let life pass by while I wish stuff would happen type dreaming. Nope. It’s the take action, make things happen type dreaming. That type of dreaming is powerful and addicting.
I was sixteen when I had my first experience with that type of dreaming. And to make it really great, I had one of my best friends by my side when I dared to dream big. Dulce and I had decided to learn French our first year of high school. The first year was a disaster and we hated it. But when we discovered the possibility of going to Paris if we stayed in the class, we stuck through another year of je m’appelles and tu t’apelles. And maybe, just maybe, we could visit EUROPE. At sixteen. Huge deal.
So we stayed in the class another year. And another. Then Paris, France happened. And then another year of French class. Turns out dreaming big and lots of negotiating with parents is worth it. Our trip through Paris, Barcelona and Amsterdam included loads of dreaming. At sixteen. Together. About love, life, crepes and traveling. Along The Seine river we sat, two little Mexican girls, laughing, talking and enjoying every minute of watching our dreams come true. And eight years after Paris and more than fourteen years after the first time we met, Dulce and I can still sit, talk and laugh the same way we did years ago while we walked along the streets of Paris stuffing our faces with chocolate crepes. Laugh, talk. Talk and then laugh some more.
And that’s exactly what we did during Dulces portrait session. We laughed. And I have a bunch of blurry pictures to prove it. Dulce is going through an amazing stage in life, one that I am too chicken to experience first hand so I told her that portraits to capture her ‘glow’ are mandatory. So meet one of my best friends, Dulce and all her fabulousness…
The photo on the right is my favorite of you. You gorgeous thing, you
Do you see it!? I’m not just referring to the ridiculously gorgeous light…I’m talking about that “glow”…stunning.
This is one of my favorites. With it’s blur and all. I love it.
Proof that we laughed the entire time= blurry picture + a laughing picture.
Dulce, I shall name this photo RAJA

Dulce,
I’ll be honest, I was tempted to post the thug picture of you and say something like ‘meet baby angel’
but then I know you’d have a strong comeback with ‘mystical’ or something like that so I decided to leave all embarrassing stages completely out of this post haha! It’s a good thing that those ‘stages’ are done and over with so we can focus on more important things. Like food. And babies
You know I think you are amazing and I am forever greatful for your friendship. I don’t think I can fully express how excited I am for you and everything you have going for you and your familia. Dulce, I love you like a sister and I cannot wait to meet the little version of you. Or a little version of Vince mixed with a little of you
Love,
Marissa
